Larisa, la flamenquita

A life of flamenco dancing

Flamenco has been everywhere with me.

  • Growing up, it was National Institute of Flamenco.

  • In college, it was intermittent classes with Yaelisa Caminos Flamencos and Virginia Iglesias' Flamenco Academy of Dance.

  • During a summer researching at Yale, it was Melinda Marquez Flamenco Dance Center.

  • In grad school, it was Jeanie Ibanez at Ninth Street Dance, seeing yearly shows by Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, even a show by Farruquito hosted by Duke. Virtual FB classes by Yolit Flamenco were a saving grace when the pandemic hit hard.

  • During a brief postdoc in Chicago, it was Ensemble Espanol Spanish Dance Theater.

  • And now in DC, high hopes that it will be Furia Flamenca Dance Company (at Séber Method Academy).

Flamenco finds you. Always let it 💃
